Foreign Minister Dar Hold Consultations With Saudi, Egyptian FMs on Gaza
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has started consultation with brotherly countries over US President Trump’s invitation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to join the so-called “Board of Peace” for Gaza.
On Monday Pakistani Foreign Minister, Mr Dar held telephonic consultation with Saudi and Egyptian Foreign Ministers separately.
A day ago Pakistan Foreign Office announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had received a formal invitation for joining the “Board of Peace” For Gaza–a governance structure which would govern the Gaza strip after the withdrawal of Israeli Defense Forces from there.
The Board of Peace is an international body chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump, established in January 2026 to oversee the reconstruction and transitional governance of the Gaza Strip following the ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. It is a central component of the Trump administration’s “20-point peace plan,” which was endorsed by the United Nations Security Council in late 2025.
The United Nations Security Council through a resolution gave a three pronged mandate to the new governance structures for Gaza.
Firstly ,the board will supervise the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), an interim technocratic Palestinian government led by Ali Shaath. It will be responsible for mobilizing international resources and managing the reconstruction of Gaza’s infrastructure. Thirdly, the board will work alongside the International Stabilization Force (ISF), a peacekeeping mission tasked with disarming Hamas and training a new Palestinian police force.
The Board of Peace will have a Gaza Executive Board which will be Responsible for regional coordination and on-the-ground support. It includes representatives from Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, and the UAE, as well as UN official Sigrid Kaag. President Trump has so far sent invitations Leaders from countries including India, Australia, Canada, Italy, Pakistan, and Russia. Hungary and Vietnam were among the first to accept.
Pakistan’s decision to join the International stabilization Force for maintaining peace in Gaza is still pending. Foreign Ministry officials emphasize that no final decision has been made and no formal request for a specific number of troops has been received. Pakistan has stated it is prepared to join a mission focused on humanitarian stabilization but is not ready to play any role in disarming Hamas or Palestinian resistance groups. Pakistan insists that any troop commitment must be part of a mandate that is transparent, politically neutral, and aligned with United Nations resolutions
It is believed that Pakistan wants to hold consultations with all the relevant brotherly countries before taking the decision to join the peace keeping force and Board of Peace for Gaza. Egyptian President has also received invitation from President Trump to join the Board of Peace.
Besides Gaza, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also discussed regional developments with his Saudi and Egyptian counterparts, “Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar spoke with Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, and discussed regional developments and avenues for deeper bilateral cooperation,” the Pakistani foreign office said.
“Both leaders looked forward to continuing their discussions on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.”
Separately, Dar spoke with his Egyptian counterpart Dr. Badr Abdelatty and discussed with him the recent regional developments and ongoing bilateral and multilateral issues, according to the Pakistani foreign office.
“Both leaders emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation,” it added.
