CDA Invites Bids For Construction of Cricket Stadium in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) has finally invited bids for awarding consultancy to construction companies which will help build and design Islamabad Cricket Stadium in the Federal Capital.
The CDA document available with the NAM news invites the construction companies to submit proposals for providing services for designing, review and technical services for the construction of Cricket Stadium in D-12 sector of Islamabad.
Estimates about completion time of the cricket stadium varies. While the government officials are saying that the construction work on the cricket stadium is expected to be completed within a time of one financial year. Experts say that it would not be before two years that the stadium will be available for playing international cricket matches.
“We are doing our best to complete the construction work before the end of this year” said a CDA official, “But in any case delays could always happen”.
The stadium would be located in the foothills of the Margalla Hills. This will be the first purpose-built cricket stadium, which will add a “major landmark to Islamabad’s sporting infrastructure and bring top-level cricket closer to its residents”.
The CDA authorities have planned the location of stadium to be a beautiful site at the foothills of the Margalla Hills, with the view of the Margalla at the backside of the stadium
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to perform the groundbreaking for the construction of the stadium in the coming February next year. The construction of the stadium is expected to be completed in one financial year.
The CDA authorities are working working with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on the planning of the stadium.
“CDA officials said that the capacity of the stadium will be almost the same as of Qaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
Gaddafi Stadium Lahore is Pakistan’s largest cricket venue with a seating capacity of around 34,000 spectators.
In the absence of a cricket stadium in Islamabad, Federal Capital’s twin city Rawalpindi has long served as host for international cricket matches at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. However, games there often cause major traffic disruptions in the densely populated garrison city.
Officials say the new Islamabad stadium’s location has been chosen to avoid those problems.
The new cricket stadium is located on Iran Avenue and it will be connected with the motorway and the Islamabad airport, so it is assumed that the problem of traffic congestion during matches will be resolved because of the location of this cricket stadium.
A cricket stadium of international standards was part of Islamabad’s master plan, prepared in the 1960s. It took many decades, so now, finally, city managers are all set to construct this facility for the residents of Islamabad and cricket fans are very happy.
Cricket fans are especially jubilant about the construction of a new cricket stadium in Islamabad and they are especially happy that this facility would help solve the traffic congestion problem in the twin-city.
Pakistan Cricket Board officials will be part of the government committee that would supervise the construction work and the efforts to make the stadium a state of the art facility of international standard
