Iran War Could Push 45 Million Into Acute Hunger By June: WFP

Iran war may push 45 million people into acute hunger by June, World Food Programme says

The World Food Programme has warned that the ongoing conflict involving Iran could push an additional 45 million people into acute hunger worldwide by June. Officials said disruptions to global supply chains, rising food and fuel prices and blocked humanitarian routes are already putting severe pressure on vulnerable populations.

According to WFP Deputy Executive Director Carl Skau, the war’s impact on shipping, oil prices and food costs could drive global hunger to unprecedented levels. The agency noted that the number of people facing acute food insecurity could exceed the current record of about 319 million if the conflict continues to escalate.

Humanitarian groups also warned that rising operational costs and declining donor funding are limiting their ability to deliver aid to crisis-hit regions. The WFP said delays and rerouting of food shipments have already increased its shipping costs by about 18 percent since the conflict began
