Bangladesh’s Ousted PM Hasina Sentenced To Death Over Students Crackdown

Bangladesh’s deposed Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, has been sentenced to death in absentia by a special tribunal after being found guilty of crimes against humanity linked to a violent crackdown on a student-led uprising.
The court ruled that Hasina ordered the use of lethal force—including helicopters, drones, and weapons—against protesters during the 2024 unrest, and failed to prevent mass killings.
She denies all charges, calling the trial politically motivated, and remains in self-exile in India.
The verdict comes amid deep political division and heightened security in Dhaka, with the tribunal’s judgment seen as historic.
