UN Security Council Condemns Balochistan Attack
ISLAMABAD: In a major diplomatic support to Pakistan’s counter terrorism efforts, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Wednesday strongly condemned the series of terrorist attacks across multiple locations in Balochistan.
The UN Security Council in a statement said that the attacks, which occurred on January 31, 2026, were carried out across the province and described them as “heinous and cowardly acts of terrorism”.
The UNSC expressed its “deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the governor and people of Pakistan”. The council also wished a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured in the attacks.
The statement reaffirmed that “terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security”.
It added that it was crucial to “hold perpetrators, organisers, financiers, and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice,” urging all states to cooperate with the government of Pakistan in accordance with international law and relevant UNSC resolutions.
The UNSC reiterated that “any act of terrorism is criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of motivation, timing, or perpetrator”.
It further stressed that all states must combat terrorism “by all means, in accordance with the UN Charter and other obligations under international law, including international human rights law, international refugee law, and international humanitarian law,” in order to address threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.
Meanwhile the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman also condemned the attacks in Balochistan and vowed to support Pakistan in combating terrorism
“We mourn for the lives lost, and our hearts go out to the injured and those who lost their loved ones,” he said.
The number of terrorists killed in clearance operations across Balochistan has risen to 197, as security forces continued ‘mop-up’ actions in Nushki district and other parts of the province.
The clearance operations follow several coordinated terrorist attacks staged across the province on Saturday.
The Baloch Liberation Army has been declared a terrorist organization by the important countries of the world including the United States.
The United Nations Monitoring Committee has earlier reported that the Baloch Liberation Army has been collaborating with Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan in carrying out joint terror attacks against the Pakistani government and Pakistani military.
While historically distinct—the BLA being secular-ethnonationalist and the TTP religiously motivated—evidence of a “nexus” has grown following the 2021 Taliban takeover of Afghanistan.
Most strong evidence of their collaboration came from two factors. Firstly, Single investor theory supports TTP-BLA collaboration: Indian RAW is investing both in TTP and BLA to destabilize Pakistan. It seems Indians are in Afghanistan with a big plan. They want the Pakistani military to bog down in a prolonged civil war in border provinces of Afghanistan. Secondly, this evidence is even confirmed by the UN monitoring committee that both share space in Afghanistan for training camps.
It was in Afghanistan that Al-Qaida brought BLA-TTP closer. Al-Qaeda has a presence of 500 fighters in Afghanistan. But they have networking in this pool of fighters from different terror groups hiding in Afghanistan. Afghan intelligence is hosting around 15 terror groups in Afghanistan. They provide networking among these various groups. One evidence of this networking is that both TTP and BLA fighters are using American rifles left behind by American forces in Afghanistan
