BISP Chief Denies Responsibility For Rahim Yar Khan Payment Deaths

Chairperson says BISP not responsible for cash disbursement after deaths at payment point in Rahim Yar Khan

The chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme has said the agency is not directly responsible for the physical cash disbursement process following reports of deaths at a payment point in Rahim Yar Khan. The clarification came after a tragic incident where several people lost their lives during the distribution of financial assistance.

Officials stated that the programme provides funds to beneficiaries through partner banks and designated payment service providers, which manage on-ground disbursement and crowd arrangements. Authorities added that the role of BISP is primarily to identify eligible beneficiaries and ensure the transfer of funds through the approved system.

The incident has sparked concern over safety arrangements at payment centres, with authorities announcing that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths and to review crowd management measures at future distribution points.
