Govt Announces More Than 2 Hours Of Daily Loadshedding Amid Fuel Constraints

The government has announced over two hours of daily loadshedding during peak hours as fuel constraints continue to strain Pakistan’s energy sector. The decision comes as authorities attempt to manage rising generation costs and avoid a sharp increase in electricity tariffs.

According to officials, power supply will be suspended for approximately 2 to 2.25 hours daily between evening and night peak demand periods. The move is aimed at reducing reliance on expensive fuel sources while maintaining financial stability in the power sector.

The crisis has been exacerbated by disruptions in liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies, particularly after supply issues from key exporters amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. This has significantly limited fuel availability for power generation, increasing pressure on the system.

Experts say the country is not facing a capacity shortage but rather a fuel and cost management issue. Reduced hydropower generation and limited gas supply have created a shortfall of up to 2,500MW, forcing authorities to implement controlled outages.

Analysts warn that the energy crisis may deepen if fuel supply disruptions persist, with potential impacts including higher inflation, industrial slowdown and public frustration due to prolonged power cuts across major cities.
