Iran Says Strait Of Hormuz Open For Commercial Vessels After Lebanon Deal

Iran has announced that the Strait of Hormuz is now open for commercial vessels following a ceasefire agreement linked to the situation in Lebanon, signaling a temporary easing of regional tensions.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that the vital waterway is “completely open” for commercial shipping for the duration of the ceasefire. The move is aimed at ensuring the continued flow of global trade, particularly oil shipments, through one of the world’s most critical maritime routes.

Officials stated that vessels will be required to follow designated routes coordinated by Iran’s maritime authorities, as part of measures to maintain security and regulate passage through the strait.

The reopening comes after weeks of disruption that had severely impacted global energy markets. Following the announcement, oil prices dropped sharply, reflecting expectations of improved supply and reduced risk to shipments.

However, analysts caution that the situation remains fragile, as the reopening is tied directly to the continuation of the ceasefire. Concerns over security risks, including mines and ongoing geopolitical tensions, continue to cast uncertainty over long-term stability.
