White House says Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner to head to Pakistan for talks with Iran

The White House has confirmed that senior US officials Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will travel to Pakistan to engage in renewed talks with Iran, as diplomatic efforts intensify to revive stalled negotiations.

According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the two envoys are expected to arrive in Islamabad for high-level discussions with Iranian representatives, with Pakistan continuing its role as a key mediator in the process.

Officials say the visit comes at a critical juncture, following the extension of a fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran aimed at creating space for diplomacy. The talks are expected to focus on core issues including Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions relief, and regional security arrangements.

Reports indicate that Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is also expected to be present in Islamabad, raising the possibility of direct or indirect engagement between both sides. However, uncertainty remains over the format and outcome of the discussions, given previous rounds ended without a breakthrough.

The White House has expressed cautious optimism, noting signs of potential progress while acknowledging that major differences persist. Vice President JD Vance, who led earlier negotiations, is reportedly on standby and may join if talks show positive momentum.

Analysts say the upcoming meetings could prove decisive for the future of US-Iran relations, with Pakistan’s mediation once again under the spotlight. They warn that without clear commitments from both sides, the window for diplomacy may narrow further amid rising regional tensions.
