Iran Says It Has ‘No Trust’ In US, Will Negotiate Only If Serious

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said Tehran has “no trust” in the United States and will only engage in negotiations if Washington shows seriousness in its diplomatic approach.

Speaking during the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi, Araghchi stated that contradictory messages from the US have raised doubts about Washington’s real intentions regarding ongoing negotiations and regional peace efforts.

The Iranian foreign minister said Iran is attempting to preserve the current ceasefire to give diplomacy a chance, but warned that Tehran remains prepared to respond if tensions escalate again.

Araghchi also reiterated Iran’s stance on the Strait of Hormuz, saying commercial vessels may pass through the strategic waterway provided they coordinate with Iran’s navy.

Analysts say the remarks reflect continuing distrust between Tehran and Washington as diplomatic efforts remain stalled amid broader regional instability and disputes over maritime security and Iran’s nuclear programme.
