Iran Announces Persian Gulf Strait Authority To Manage Strait Of Hormuz Operations
Iran has officially announced the establishment of the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) to oversee and manage maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian state-linked statements.
The newly formed body will be responsible for regulating vessel movement, issuing transit guidance, and coordinating with naval authorities to manage shipping operations in the strategically important waterway.
Officials said the authority will also provide real-time updates on maritime activity and streamline procedures for ships passing through the strait amid ongoing regional tensions and security concerns.
The move is seen as part of Iran’s broader efforts to formalize its regulatory framework over one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes, which has remained a focal point of geopolitical friction.
Analysts say the announcement could further intensify international debate over freedom of navigation and maritime law in the Gulf region, where tensions have been rising in recent months.
