Baghaei Says Ending Lebanon War Integral To US-Iran MoU

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has said that ending the conflict in Lebanon is an essential part of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) being negotiated between Iran and the United States.

Speaking at a press briefing in Tehran, Baghaei stated that no agreement with Washington would be sustainable without comprehensive guarantees for Lebanon’s security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He noted that the proposed MoU includes multiple references to Lebanon, underscoring its importance in the broader peace process.

The Iranian spokesperson stressed that any ceasefire arrangement must ensure an end to hostilities on all fronts, warning that continued attacks in Lebanon could undermine efforts to achieve a lasting regional settlement.

His remarks come amid reports that the United States and Iran are moving closer to finalising a framework agreement aimed at ending months of conflict, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and launching further negotiations on unresolved issues.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts continue ahead of a planned signing ceremony in Geneva later this week, with regional stakeholders closely monitoring developments related to Lebanon and the implementation of any future ceasefire commitments.

Analysts say the inclusion of Lebanon in the proposed agreement highlights the interconnected nature of regional conflicts and suggests that progress on the US-Iran track may depend heavily on developments along the Lebanese front.
