Khawaja Asif Says Pakistan’s Economy Has Left The ICU

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that Pakistan’s economy has “left the ICU,” claiming that key economic indicators reflect improving stability after a period of severe financial challenges.

Speaking during a public event, Khawaja Asif said the government’s economic policies and reform measures have helped steer the country away from the risk of default and put it on a path toward recovery.

He highlighted improvements in inflation trends, foreign exchange reserves, and overall macroeconomic stability, describing the current situation as a positive turnaround for the national economy.

The minister noted that while significant challenges remain, the government is focused on maintaining fiscal discipline, encouraging investment, and sustaining economic growth in the coming years.

His remarks come as official data showed Pakistan’s economy grew by 3.7 percent in fiscal year 2025-26, marking the fastest pace of growth in four years despite falling short of the government’s target.

Analysts say the economy has shown signs of stabilization following extensive reforms and international financial support, but caution that continued policy consistency will be essential to ensure long-term and sustainable growth.
