Pakistan’s Indus Commissioner Says India Yet To Respond On Chenab Fluctuations
Pakistan’s Indus Commissioner has said he has written to his Indian counterpart four times regarding unusual fluctuations in the flow of the Chenab River but has not received any response so far.
Speaking to the media, the commissioner said the letters sought clarification over changes in water flows and stressed the importance of timely information-sharing under the provisions of the Indus Waters Treaty.
He noted that Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns through official channels, urging India to respond and ensure effective communication on matters related to transboundary water management.
The commissioner emphasized that transparent cooperation between the two countries is essential to prevent misunderstandings and address issues affecting downstream water availability.
Pakistan has consistently maintained that both sides should uphold their obligations under the Indus Waters Treaty and resolve water-related concerns through established bilateral mechanisms.
Analysts say the lack of response may further complicate discussions on water management, highlighting the need for sustained dialogue and adherence to treaty commitments.
