FIFA Accuses UEFA of Spreading ‘Misinformation’ Ahead of Election

FIFA has accused UEFA of conducting what it described as a “misinformation campaign” and attempting to influence the upcoming FIFA presidential election. The allegation was made in a court filing in the United States.

The dispute centres on UEFA’s efforts to obtain documents and testimony linked to the now-abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal, which involved plans to transfer and commercialise World Cup rights through a separate entity.

FIFA’s lawyers said UEFA’s court application contained what they called false or misleading claims about FIFA and President Gianni Infantino, and accused the European governing body of harassment and acting in bad faith.

UEFA has previously raised concerns about the abandoned investment proposal and sought evidence for possible legal action in Switzerland, including allegations relating to the valuation and governance of the planned venture. FIFA has rejected those allegations.

The confrontation comes ahead of the next FIFA presidential election, in which Infantino is seeking another term. UEFA has been among the strongest critics of his leadership following the collapse of the proposed World Cup commercial-rights deal.

The dispute has intensified a broader debate within international football over FIFA governance, financial transparency, commercial strategy and the balance of power between FIFA and its continental confederations.

The legal and political confrontation is expected to remain a major issue as FIFA prepares for its presidential election process, with both sides continuing to defend their positions over the abandoned investment plan.
