Iran Receives US Response on Proposal to End War
Iranian authorities say Tehran has received the formal US response to its latest proposal aimed at ending the seven-month conflict between the two countries, according to Iranian state media.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi received the response through Qatari mediators and presented the US position to President Masoud Pezeshkian during a cabinet meeting, government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said.
Details of Washington’s response have not yet been made public, and Iranian officials have not said whether the proposal was accepted, rejected or returned with conditions.
Tehran’s earlier proposal called for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, alongside measures including an end to the US blockade, the release of Iranian frozen assets and relief from sanctions.
The United States has publicly rejected Iran’s earlier offer, while indirect negotiations through Qatar have continued. A key disagreement remains over the sequencing of commitments, including the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions, frozen assets and Iran’s nuclear programme.
The latest exchange marks another diplomatic step as both sides face pressure to reduce hostilities and restore stability around the strategically important waterway.
The response could determine whether the current mediation effort develops into broader negotiations or faces another setback, with regional security and global energy supplies closely tied to developments around the Strait of Hormuz.
