Sindh Govt Extends Mir Raza Commission’s Term Until October 15
The Sindh government has extended the term of the judicial commission investigating the death of Mir Raza Ali until October 15, allowing additional time to complete the inquiry and finalise its findings and recommendations.
The decision was approved by the Sindh cabinet at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. The commission is headed by Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial.
The one-member commission had completed extensive proceedings and recorded statements from dozens of witnesses. Its earlier 30-day term expired on September 27, prompting an application for an extension.
The commission is examining the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza Ali’s death and whether the investigation was conducted impartially and in accordance with the law.
Its terms of reference also include examining possible negligence, dereliction of duty, professional misconduct, suppression or manipulation of evidence, and any unlawful acts or cover-up by police, medico-legal or other officials.
Mir Raza Ali, a 25-year-old businessman, went missing on July 28 and his body was found the following day in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar. A subsequent post-mortem concluded that his death resulted from a gunshot wound and found the circumstances inconsistent with suicide.
The commission is expected to resume proceedings and use the additional time to complete witness examinations before submitting its findings and recommendations to the Sindh government.
