Yemen Forces Claim to Have Foiled Major Houthi Attack
Yemeni government forces say they have foiled a major Houthi attack on multiple fronts, as fighting continues to intensify across parts of the country.
The Taiz Military Axis said its forces repelled a Houthi assault and targeted positions and reinforcements belonging to the group. The claim has not been independently verified.
The reported clashes come amid a broader escalation between Yemen’s internationally recognised government forces and the Iran-aligned Houthis, with fighting reported across several western and southern front lines.
Yemeni forces have also reported intercepting Houthi drones and thwarting missile attacks in recent weeks, while the Houthis have accused Saudi Arabia and its allies of carrying out airstrikes against areas under their control.
The renewed fighting has raised concerns about further disruption around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a strategically important maritime corridor linking the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.
The escalation has also created new humanitarian concerns, with the United Nations reporting civilian casualties, attacks affecting displacement sites and health facilities, and large-scale displacement in recent weeks.
The latest developments come as UN efforts continue to prevent further escalation and seek a negotiated settlement to Yemen’s long-running conflict.
