Taiwan Receives Fighter Jets Amid First New F-16V China Tensions
Taiwan has received its first two new F-16V Block 70 fighter jets from the United States, strengthening its air capabilities amid continued military tensions with China.
The aircraft are the first of 66 F-16V jets ordered by Taiwan under an agreement approved in 2019. The two fighters landed at Chihhang Air Base in Taitung after months of delivery delays.
The advanced jets feature upgraded avionics, radar and weapons systems designed to improve Taiwan’s ability to monitor and respond to regional military activity.
The arrival marks a significant step in Taiwan’s defence modernization and continued military cooperation with Washington, as Beijing maintains its opposition to US arms sales to the island.
Taiwan is expected to receive additional F-16Vs, with its defence minister saying more aircraft are due to arrive before the end of the year.
