US Envoy Warns Yemen Has Returned to Full-Scale War
United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg has warned that the country has returned to full-scale war, as escalating clashes threaten regional stability and worsen the humanitarian situation.
Briefing the UN Security Council, Grundberg said fighting had spread across multiple frontlines, including areas around Taiz, Lahj, Marib, and the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait.
The escalation follows advances by Houthi forces and a counter-offensive by Yemen’s internationally recognised government. Houthi attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia have further heightened regional tensions.
The renewed conflict threatens civilian safety, maritime security, and international trade routes. The United Nations has also raised concerns over growing displacement and deteriorating humanitarian conditions.
Grundberg urged the parties to pursue political dialogue, stressing that battlefield gains cannot replace negotiations needed to achieve a lasting settlement.
