North Korea Says It Has Tested a New AI-Guided Torpedo System

North Korea has announced the successful test of a new artificial intelligence-guided torpedo system, marking another step in its efforts to strengthen naval capabilities amid rising regional tensions.

According to state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the weapon, named Zam-2.0, was tested underwater on Thursday. The system reportedly uses AI technology for target detection and guidance.

North Korean officials said the test confirmed technical improvements to the weapon, including its propulsion system. State media also reported that related propulsion technology had undergone more than 180 trials over the past five years.

The test comes amid a series of recent weapons demonstrations by Pyongyang, including submarine-launched cruise missile trials. The developments have drawn attention to North Korea’s expanding military capabilities and their potential implications for regional security.

However, North Korea has not disclosed detailed technical evidence of the torpedo’s AI capabilities, and the claims have not been independently verified. South Korea’s military had not immediately commented on the reported test.
