PHC Postpones Hearing on KP Governor’s Rule Petitions to November 10
The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has postponed the hearing of petitions challenging the imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to November 10. The decision extends the legal proceedings over a politically significant issue in the province.
The petitions challenge the constitutional and legal basis of imposing governor’s rule in KP, with the court expected to examine the arguments presented by the parties involved.
The two-member bench, comprising Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Muhammad Faheem Wali, issued notices to the federal and provincial governments and directed that the relevant law officers be notified. The petitions were filed by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and other political and legal representatives.
During the hearing, petitioners argued that the constitutional requirements for imposing emergency and governor’s rule had not been fulfilled, particularly the requirement for provincial assembly approval. They asked the court to declare the measures unconstitutional and reverse the decisions.
The case carries significant political and constitutional implications for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the court expected to consider the parties’ responses and legal arguments when proceedings resume on November 10.
