Japanese Mission Embarks on Journey to Mars Moon
A Japanese space mission has embarked on a journey toward one of Mars’ moons, marking another step in efforts to explore the Red Planet and better understand its origins.
The mission aims to study Mars’ natural satellites, Phobos and Deimos, with a particular focus on collecting scientific data and investigating the moons’ composition and formation.
Japan’s space exploration efforts are focused on advancing planetary science through spacecraft observations and sample-return technology. Studying these moons could provide important clues about the early history of Mars and the wider solar system.
The mission is expected to contribute valuable information to international research on Mars and help scientists assess future exploration opportunities.
Japan’s space agency has successfully launched the Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) spacecraft aboard an H3 rocket from the Tanegashima Space Center. The mission is expected to reach Mars in 2027 and return samples to Earth by 2031.
