APJA condemns attack on Islamabad High Court Bar Association president

Islamabad – President of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association, Syed Wajid Ali Shah Gilani, was manhandled and assaulted by a group of lawyers during a protest on the High Court premises. The incident has drawn strong criticism from the legal fraternity as well as journalistic bodies.

Masood Chaudhary, National Coordinator and Spokesperson of the All Pakistan Journalists Association (APJA), strongly denounced the assault, describing Mr. Gilani as “a highly dignified and respected personality.” He termed the incident deeply regrettable, adding that such actions not only damage the reputation of the Bar but also undermine public confidence in institutions of justice. “Such unfortunate episodes inflict serious harm on democracy and democratic values as well,” he noted.

Later, Mr. Chaudhary, accompanied by a delegation of journalists including Shafie Mughal, Hamid Chaudhry, and others, visited the chamber of Mr. Gilani to express solidarity with him.
