Finance Minister Terms Population, Climate Change As ‘Existential Issues’ Pakistan Faces
The Finance Minister of Pakistan has described population growth and climate change as “existential issues” facing the country. He warned that without addressing these twin challenges, Pakistan’s economic and social development could be severely undermined. The minister stressed the need for comprehensive policies to manage population dynamics, including family planning and human capital development, alongside urgent measures to adapt to and mitigate climate risks like floods, heatwaves and rising sea levels. He called for coordinated action involving government, private sector and civil society to safeguard the nation’s future and strengthen resilience against these long-term threats.
