Saudi Arabia Sets Minimum Age For Haj Pilgrims at 15 Years

Saudi Arabia sets minimum age for Haj pilgrims at 15 years

Saudi Arabia has set a minimum age limit of 15 years for pilgrims intending to perform Hajj, as part of updated regulations aimed at improving safety and crowd management during the annual pilgrimage.

According to official guidelines and recent directives, individuals below the age of 15 will not be allowed to participate in Hajj, with authorities instructing countries, including Pakistan, to ensure strict compliance with the rule.

Officials say the decision is linked to concerns over extreme weather conditions, overcrowding, and the physical demands of the pilgrimage, which can pose risks for younger children. The measure is part of broader efforts by Saudi authorities to enhance the overall safety and organization of one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.

The restriction also aligns with earlier policies that limited or discouraged the participation of young children in Hajj due to health and logistical challenges. Authorities have emphasized that priority is being given to ensuring a safer and more manageable experience for pilgrims.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs has directed airlines and airport officials to enforce the age requirement, noting that affected applicants would be eligible for refunds or adjustments under existing arrangements.

Analysts say the move reflects Saudi Arabia’s evolving approach to managing Hajj, focusing increasingly on safety, efficiency, and crowd control amid rising global participation.
