Araghchi Says Strait Of Hormuz Open To Commercial Ships Cooperating With Iran Navy

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said the Strait of Hormuz remains open to all commercial vessels, provided they cooperate with Iran’s naval forces while passing through the strategic waterway.

Speaking during an interview ahead of the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting, Araghchi stressed that Iran has not created obstacles for maritime traffic and blamed the United States for escalating tensions in the region through what Tehran described as an “illegal blockade.”

The Iranian foreign minister stated that commercial ships are free to transit through the Strait of Hormuz as long as they coordinate with Iranian naval authorities to ensure security and navigation procedures.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical energy routes, carrying a significant share of global oil shipments. Recent regional tensions have increased international concerns regarding maritime security and uninterrupted trade flows.

Analysts say Iran’s latest remarks appear aimed at reassuring global markets while also reinforcing Tehran’s influence over one of the world’s most strategically important waterways.
