BISP Chairperson Demands Apology Over Rana Sanaullah’s Remarks

Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Rubina Khalid, has called for an apology following remarks made by Rana Sanaullah that were perceived as offensive towards beneficiaries of the social welfare program.

Speaking on the issue, Rubina Khalid said the comments had hurt the sentiments of millions of deserving families who rely on BISP assistance and contribute positively to society despite economic challenges.

She emphasized that beneficiaries of the program should be treated with dignity and respect, noting that welfare initiatives are designed to support vulnerable segments of the population rather than stigmatize them.

The controversy emerged after Rana Sanaullah’s remarks sparked criticism from political figures and social welfare advocates, prompting calls for clarification and an official apology.

BISP officials reiterated the program’s role in providing financial assistance to low-income households across Pakistan, highlighting its importance in supporting families facing economic hardship.

Analysts say the issue has generated political debate, with discussions focusing on the treatment of welfare recipients and the broader role of social protection programs in the country.
