Trump Says US Has ‘No Obligation’ To Invest In Iran

US President Donald Trump has said that the United States has no obligation to invest in Iran, stressing that any economic benefits for Tehran under a potential peace agreement would not involve direct funding from American taxpayers.

Speaking on the sidelines of the G7 summit, Trump said the proposed US-Iran agreement is moving into a “second stage,” but clarified that Washington does not intend to provide financial assistance or make investments in Iran as part of the arrangement.

The US president emphasized that future economic opportunities for Iran would depend on private-sector participation and support from regional partners, provided Tehran complies with the terms of the agreement.

Trump’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions surrounding a broader peace framework aimed at reducing tensions, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and addressing concerns over Iran’s nuclear activities.

US officials have repeatedly stated that sanctions relief, access to frozen assets, and any potential economic incentives would be tied to Iran fulfilling its commitments under the proposed accord.

Analysts say Trump’s comments are intended to reassure domestic audiences that any future agreement with Iran would prioritize strategic objectives without placing additional financial burdens on the United States.
