Pakistan Welcomes Progress on Gaza Peace Plan
ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office spokesman has said that Pakistan welcomes the positive developments under the Board of Peace towards the implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan.
In a short statement released on Thursday the spokesman said that Pakistan also appreciates the mediating countries, including the United States of America, Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, for their sustained efforts and expects that these developments will result in the full implementation of all commitments under the Gaza Peace Plan.
“Pakistan trusts that these efforts will contribute to the realisation of the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination through a credible, time-bound political process, consistent with international law, international legitimacy, and the relevant United Nations resolutions. This process should culminate in the establishment of an independent, sovereign, contiguous, and viable State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its Capital” reads the statement.
Pakistan has consistently supported international efforts aimed at securing a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and advancing a political settlement based on the two-state solution. Islamabad has repeatedly called for an immediate end to hostilities, unrestricted humanitarian access, and adherence to international humanitarian law, while maintaining that lasting peace can only be achieved through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
Pakistan has also backed the diplomatic initiatives undertaken by the countries participating in the mediation process, including the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye. Pakistani officials have argued that sustained engagement by regional and international stakeholders is essential for implementing the Gaza Peace Plan and preventing a return to large-scale violence in the Palestinian territory.
Over the past year, Pakistan has used multilateral forums, including the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to advocate for greater international action on Gaza. The country has supported resolutions calling for a ceasefire, increased humanitarian assistance and renewed negotiations aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through peaceful means.
Islamabad does not recognise Israel and has maintained that any normalisation of relations would depend on the creation of a sovereign and viable Palestinian state. Successive Pakistani governments have reaffirmed their support for the Palestinian cause, describing it as a central element of the country’s foreign policy and a position rooted in international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
The latest diplomatic developments come amid renewed international efforts to translate the Gaza Peace Plan into concrete political and security arrangements. Mediators are seeking to ensure implementation of agreed commitments, facilitate humanitarian relief and create conditions for a broader political process that could revive negotiations on a comprehensive settlement of the decades-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
