Iranian Flight Lands in China Despite Sanctions Threat

An Iranian Mahan Air flight landed in China despite a US threat to shut down Iranian airlines and punish countries or companies providing services to them.

The flight from Tehran landed in Guangzhou on September 23, according to FlightRadar24 tracking data. The aircraft was not listed on the official website of Guangzhou Baiyun Airport.

The landing came as new US sanctions targeting Iran’s aviation sector took effect. Some Iranian international flights were cancelled, while routes to several destinations, including China, remained operational.

The development highlights the continuing economic and diplomatic tensions between Washington and Tehran, as US measures seek to increase pressure on Iran’s aviation and wider economy.

China has opposed the US sanctions, while Iranian airlines continue operating some routes to Chinese cities despite the new restrictions.
