Heavy Fighting and Internet Disruptions Escalate as Ethiopia Conflict Intensifies

Heavy fighting has intensified in northern Ethiopia as clashes between federal forces and Tigrayan fighters raise fresh concerns of a wider conflict.

Fighting has spread across parts of Tigray, Afar and Amhara, with Ethiopian forces battling Tigrayan fighters in several areas.

The escalation has also disrupted communications, with internet and phone networks affected in Tigray and northern Ethiopia, making it more difficult to verify developments on the ground.

The renewed violence has raised fears of a return to broader conflict following Ethiopia’s devastating 2020–2022 war, while local residents have reported concerns over supplies and basic services.

The situation remains fluid as fighting continues and tensions grow between the federal government and forces aligned with Tigray.
