Bangkok Declares Flood Disaster as Heavy Rain Submerges Roads

Bangkok authorities have declared a flood disaster across all 50 districts after continuous heavy rain caused widespread flooding across the Thai capital.

Nearly 300 millimetres of rain fell since Thursday, filling canals and leaving major roads and several neighbourhoods submerged. Residents in affected areas have been forced to move through deep floodwater.

The eastern parts of Bangkok have been among the worst affected as the city’s drainage canals reached capacity. Authorities have deployed pumping stations and prepared sandbags and temporary shelters.

The flooding has disrupted transport and daily activities, while officials have urged residents in vulnerable areas, particularly near canals, to take precautions and move vehicles and belongings to higher ground.

Officials are continuing emergency response efforts as further heavy rain remains possible across the region.
