IRGC Says Iran Will Never Seek Nuclear Weapons

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has reiterated that Tehran is not seeking to develop nuclear weapons, as tensions with the United States remain high.

IRGC spokesman Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi said the United States knows Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons, while accusing Washington of using the nuclear issue to pressure Tehran.

The remarks come amid renewed diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States aimed at ending the ongoing conflict and addressing disputes over Iran’s nuclear programme.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has also repeatedly said that Tehran has never sought nuclear weapons and that Iran’s nuclear activities are intended for peaceful purposes.

At the same time, major disagreements remain over uranium enrichment and other aspects of Iran’s nuclear programme. Tehran has rejected demands to halt enrichment or transfer enriched uranium abroad.

The statements come as negotiators continue efforts to reduce tensions, with the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear programme among the central issues in the wider dispute.

Iran’s latest position underscores its stated commitment to peaceful nuclear technology while maintaining that it will not accept pressure or coercion in negotiations with Washington.
