UAE Launches Investigation Into Diverted Flydubai Flight
The United Arab Emirates has launched an investigation into a serious incident aboard a flydubai flight travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv, after the aircraft was diverted and landed safely in Saudi Arabia.
UAE Attorney General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi ordered a specialised investigation team to examine the incident involving flight FZ1073. The probe is being conducted in coordination with the General Civil Aviation Authority and other relevant authorities.
The flight reportedly experienced an altercation in the cockpit before crew members intervened and brought the situation under control. The aircraft subsequently made a safe emergency landing at Tabuk Airport, with passengers and crew accounted for.
UAE authorities said investigators will gather evidence and establish the circumstances, motives and sequence of events, including whether the incident was connected to terrorist activity, prior planning or outside direction. Officials have urged the public to avoid speculation while the investigation remains ongoing.
Reports say the incident involved injuries to both pilots, while passengers and crew members helped secure the aircraft. Israeli officials have described the episode as a potential attempt to bring down the plane, but the underlying motive has not been conclusively established.
The case involves authorities in several countries because the aircraft diverted to Saudi Arabia and the flight was operating between the UAE and Israel. The UAE says its jurisdiction applies because the aircraft is registered in the country and flies under the UAE flag.
Investigators are expected to continue examining evidence and witness accounts before determining the cause and nature of the incident.
