Makkah Defence Pact Meeting to Be Held Today in Riyadh

A meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement is being held today in Riyadh, bringing together senior officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.

Pakistan’s delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir. Saudi and Turkish foreign and defence ministers, along with military chiefs, are also attending.

The meeting will focus on recent regional developments and review ongoing defence and security cooperation under the Makkah Agreement. The discussions come amid heightened regional security concerns and developments involving Yemen.

The Riyadh talks are also expected to advance efforts to institutionalise the trilateral defence framework and strengthen coordination among the three member states.

Pakistan has said its participation reflects its commitment to contributing towards regional peace and stability, while the three countries continue discussions on cooperation under the agreement.
