New Zealand Cricket has defended its decision to launch a domestic T20 competition, emphasizing the importance of developing and strengthening the country’s cricket structure.

The new competition is expected to provide additional opportunities for domestic players to gain experience in the shortest format of the game.

NZ Cricket’s decision comes as T20 cricket continues to grow globally, with domestic competitions playing an important role in developing players and attracting wider interest in the sport.

The competition could contribute to the development of emerging talent while providing more exposure to high-level T20 cricket within New Zealand.

NZ Cricket remains confident that the initiative will support the future growth of domestic cricket and strengthen the country’s player pathway.
