Pakistan’s Defeat in Sultan of Johor Cup Draws Sharp Criticism from Muhammad Ali Khan
Johor Bahru, Malaysia: Pakistan’s junior hockey team has come under heavy criticism from international hockey player and former Youth Olympic coach Muhammad Ali Khan following its 2-3 defeat to Malaysia in the Sultan of Johor Cup.
Muhammad Ali Khan criticised the team’s performance, saying, “The players handed the match to their opponents on a plate. If a team of 11 plays with only seven players, there is little chance of winning—or even drawing the match.”
He added that Pakistan had been leading 2-1 and was in a winning position, but irresponsible play and disciplinary cards cost the team a match it could have won.
Khan stressed that the coaching staff must prepare the team afresh for its upcoming match against Japan, with particular emphasis on discipline and tactical execution.
Pakistan lost key players to cards during the closing stages of the match:
Rana Waleed — Red card (51st minute)
Mustafa Ghulam — Yellow car
