Fakhar Zaman and Arafat Minhas Lead Pakistan to Tri-Series Glory
Lahore: Pakistan clinched the ODI tri-series title with a thrilling three-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the final at Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday, October 31.
Chasing a challenging target of 326 runs, Pakistan reached 331 for seven in 48.3 overs, securing the trophy in front of their home crowd. The victory marked a major achievement for the hosts after a competitive tournament.
Opener Fakhar Zaman led the charge with a magnificent 127 off 99 balls, smashing 11 fours and six sixes. He steadied Pakistan’s innings after an early setback, building a crucial 149-run partnership with young batter Saad Baig, who contributed an impressive 74 off 75 deliveries.
With Pakistan needing momentum in the closing stages, Arafat Minhas delivered a match-winning performance, scoring a rapid 61 off just 31 balls. Hasan Nawaz also played an important role with an unbeaten 37, while captain Shaheen Shah Afridi sealed the victory with a six.
Earlier, Sri Lanka posted 325 for eight in their allotted 50 overs. Kamindu Mendis top-scored with 131 off 128 balls, recording his maiden ODI century, while Pavan Rathnayake added 77 to strengthen Sri Lanka’s total.
The final showcased Pakistan’s batting depth and resilience, particularly after early wickets threatened to derail the chase. Fakhar’s century and Minhas’s explosive innings ultimately proved decisive.
Pakistan’s triumph provides valuable momentum as the team continues its preparations for future international assignments, including the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
