Antonelli Makes History as Youngest Formula 1 Champion

Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli has made Formula 1 history by becoming the youngest-ever world champion at the age of 20, securing his maiden drivers’ title after a remarkable 2026 season.

The Italian clinched the championship with a third-place finish at the Mexico City Grand Prix, where Max Verstappen claimed victory and Lewis Hamilton finished second.

Antonelli delivered a composed performance despite race interruptions, including a red flag and a late safety car. His podium finish secured the points advantage needed to confirm the title with four races remaining.

The achievement breaks Sebastian Vettel’s previous record and makes Antonelli the first Italian Formula 1 world champion since Alberto Ascari in 1953.

The historic victory marks a major milestone for Mercedes and establishes Antonelli as one of the sport’s leading young talents.
