UAE Official Dismisses Iran’s Hormuz Control Plan As ‘Pipe Dream’

UAE Official Dismisses Iran’s Hormuz Control Plan As ‘Pipe Dream’

A senior United Arab Emirates official has reportedly dismissed Iran’s proposed plan to tighten control over the Strait of Hormuz, describing the idea as a “pipe dream” amid rising tensions in the Gulf region.

The remarks came after Iran announced plans related to expanding oversight and coordination mechanisms in the strategically important waterway, including the proposed Persian Gulf Strait Authority.

UAE officials argued that international shipping routes cannot be controlled unilaterally and stressed the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation under international maritime law.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, carrying a major share of global oil and gas exports. Any proposal affecting transit through the strait has drawn close international scrutiny.

Analysts say the latest exchange highlights growing regional disagreement over maritime authority and security in the Gulf, as tensions continue over shipping access and geopolitical influence.
